Help children make their voices heard this Outdoor Classroom Day

24th September 2025

All children have the right to have a say about the matters that affect them! This Outdoor Classroom Day, bring children’s voices to the forefront by helping them tell the world why spending time outdoors is important to them.

Do your pupils know who makes the decisions in their community?

According to TheyWorkForYou, most adults don’t know their MP, let alone children!

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor learning and play. By getting involved in the days of action (which could mean taking just one lesson outdoors!), you help send a message to the world that time outdoors every day is important for every child.

So far, 12,800,000 children have taken part in Outdoor Classroom Day globally. That’s enormous!

How much more powerful would it be to help the children send this message themselves?

Giving children a voice not only ensures that decisions that impact them are made with their needs in mind, but also promotes personal development, shaping them into more confident, resilient, and capable adults. This November, why not use Outdoor Classroom Day as a reason to put your class in touch with their local MPs, elected officials, and county, town, or parish councillors? Your pupils could:

  • Let their local officials know that your school is taking part
  • Invite them to visit during Outdoor Classroom Day and join the celebrations
  • Send pieces of creative writing or artworks that illustrate why they feel it’s important to learn and play outdoors

Here are some things pupils could say to make their invitations persuasive:

  • Over 12 million children have been involved in Outdoor Classroom Day worldwide
  • The campaign has contributed well over 35 million extra hours of time outdoors for children and young people
  • Two thirds of schools have increased outdoor learning and playtime since getting involved in Outdoor Classroom Day
  • But global trends show that children are spending less time outdoors than ever before, affecting their physical and mental health and wellbeing, their connection with nature, and depriving them of so many important ways of learning from the world around them
  • The help and support of people with power and influence in the community is really important in making positive change

How do they find their local representatives?
