5 reasons to sign up for Outdoor Classroom Day 2020.

13th February 2020

That’s right; Outdoor Classroom Day 2020 is back, and this time we’re doing things a bit differently.

We know that spending time outdoors matters. It supports our wellbeing. It helps us connect better to the environment around us. Enriches our learning. Allows us to feel totally free.

It’s an ethos you have all gotten behind, and supported, year on year as our big outdoor campaign evolves.

But, this year, we want to empower you more than ever before.

Will you join us on our mission to make sufficient and daily time outside a standard part of every school day?

Here are 5 reasons you should sign up to Outdoor Classroom Day.

1. We’re bringing it back to the teachers

Outdoor Classroom Day – at its heart – is a teacher-led campaign. It started back in 2012 when it was known as “Empty Classroom Day” here in the UK. Since then, it has transformed into a global phenomenon.

We want to bring it back to the teachers who brought it to life in the first place. That’s why, this year, we will be producing resources, articles and opportunities centred entirely around teacher retention and wellbeing. By signing up (and joining our newsletter community) you will have first access to this new kaleidoscope of teacher focused content

2. We’re making it easier for parents to get involved

Our website is bursting with school and classroom resources; lesson plans, media guides and playtime tips and tricks adorn our resources section.

But what about the parents that believe in Outdoor Classroom Day?

While we have always included parents in our vision, this year we will be revealing something HUGE that will directly impact the way parents and carers get involved in Outdoor Classroom Day.

Our lips are seals but we will be sharing this exciting news very soon.

3. We’re delivering a campaign built around a compassionate generation

You cannot deny the monumental rise in environmental awareness among our younger generation.

It is absolutely incredible to see – and it’s something we want to celebrate.

2020 will deliver resources, partnerships, competitions and “mini campaigns” all crafted around caring for – and understanding – our planet.

4. This is a campaign that matters

Yes, Outdoor Classroom Day is about getting outdoors and reaping those glorious benefits. But it’s also about change.

Last year we once again were about to tap into the UK and ROI Government. We put Outdoor Classroom Day, and its underlying mission, in front of the policy makers. We started the conversation.

Plus, we promoted STEM to a major audience; 70% of our teacher resources that were downloaded last year were for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. In addition, over 3000m2 of windflower meadows were planted across the country thank to our partnership with Seedball.

These are real results. And, with your help, they are figures and outcomes we can maximise this year.

5. We’ve set our sights high

Last year almost 700,000 children took part in Outdoor Classroom Day in the UK and ROI: the highest sign up rate we’ve ever had.

This year? Our sights are even higher.

We believe that the more people that support and follow our mission, the better a chance we will have of influencing real change.

Because you can’t argue with numbers. That’s why we want Outdoor Classroom Day 2020 to have the biggest reach and impact yet.

Will you help us?

Sign up to take part in Outdoor Classroom Day 2020 on Thursday 21 May. And then? Tell us about it! Tweet, share a Facebook post or drop us a line. at outdoorclassroomday@ltl.org.uk.
