East London Schools’ are going to be outside on Empty Classroom Day!

15th June 2016

East London Schools are signing up to be part of this year’s celebration of outdoor learning for Empty Classroom Day. We have been finding out how their plans for the day are shaping up and hoping that the children and teachers have plenty of fun!

Teacher at Dersingham Primary School in Newham decided to pass the planning of Empty Classroom Day onto their pupils. The Eco-Committee wanted to create a week-long festival to get the whole school involved and are running a Healthy Eating Week as well. Every class in school is taking part in different healthy eating activities during the week and then on Empty Classroom Day they are finishing off with a celebration with lots of healthy eating themed outdoor activities for the whole school to take part in! The Eco-Committee said they had had lots of fab ideas for the day including a treasure hunt to find different types of fruit and veg hidden in their school grounds and challenging other pupils to see who could do the most star jumps! We can’t wait to hear about the final activities that they have decided to do – it’s fantastic that they came up with so many ideas that they have been able to celebrate Empty Classroom Day all week!

William Bellamy Primary School in Redbridge have been running a series of outdoor learning sessions in the run up to Empty Classroom Day, with more activities and outdoor lessons planned for the actual day. Pupils from their school have visited a farm and made use of their school grounds and have been pond dipping in their very own pond. They have spent time looking for all the underwater bugs and beasties, finding lots of fascinating creatures. This is a great hands on way of learning how to identify and classify creatures, without having to be stuck inside a classroom!
