Make your own map

It’s not just unchartered territories that need exploring. Some simple steps can get budding cartographers outside discovering their local area:

  • Head out into your schoolyard or neighbourhood with a clipboard or notepad and some coloured pens and pencils
  • Fill out a map of your surroundings – you could focus on where is best to play, imaginary worlds or where all the mini beasts are…
  • Label everything by designing some different symbols.
  • Don’t forget to draw a key in the corner of your map to explain everything
  • If you have a compass why not try adding the bearings to the map so you know which direction to go. And next time maybe find out how to make your own compass…

And share your maps with #OutdoorClassroomDay!
