#MythBuster: do I need qualifications for outdoor lessons?

We’ve heard it time and time again – the niggle of concern over teaching outdoor lessons without *appropriate* qualifications. Surely you need official training to take your pupils outdoors, right?

Wrong! As a qualified teacher, you are able to teach both inside and outside the classroom. After all, primary teachers are required to teach PE, which tends to be outside.

We can appreciate that it might feel daunting to take the class outside of its typical layout. Team outdoor lessons can be a great way to alleviate that worry, whilst building an engaged large group environment for your pupils to thrive.

You also don’t have to start big. Why not kick off your outdoor lessons with smaller groups or activities for a short amount of time? Given a specific task to work on, your pupils will have a clear focus during their time outdoors.

For easy-to-use inspiration, take a look through our Lesson Resources.

Don’t forget to download and share our latest in the #MythBusters series. Together we can make 1 November’s Outdoor Classroom Day the biggest one yet!
