Autumn thoughts

8th November 2017

In 2017 over 582,000 children were registered to take part in Outdoor Classroom Day in the UK and Ireland! This figure exceeded our expectations and is testament to all the fabulous teachers and outdoor education and play advocates that work tirelessly to mainstream the outdoor classroom movement across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Whilst the majority of these children took part on 18th May 2017, we had a great response to the October campaign with 76,912 children taking part on 12th October 2017 (that’s over 600 schools!).

Having two Outdoor Classroom Days in one year has proven to be a huge success. Different schools have different needs, and not everyone was able to take part in May. Some schools are learning and playing outside EVERY DAY OF TERM and for them having two opportunities to share their work with the world is a huge bonus. Autumn also offers new learning and play experiences  – playing in leaves, leaf art, shadow art, bug hunts, traffic surveys and making bird nests to name just a few of the activities happening in and out of schools on 12th October 2017.

Thank to you everyone who took part in Outdoor Classroom Day 2017. Thanks to you, children are more active, learning about the world around them, developing new skills and most importantly having fun.

See you again next year!
